Every page within select literature is manually scanned at archiving-quality resolution (≥600 dpi) and carefully restored using digital tools. The resulting image files are analyzed using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software and turned into digital documents with rendered text. This allows for quick searching of characters or words within the texts, as well as copying of content. The Portable Document Format (PDF) is currently the most widely used and documents are therefore supplied in this file format. PaleoArchive strives towards producing the best possible documents in terms of accuracy, readability and overall quality. Still, the poor state of some of the original (typically very old) documents limits the quality of the digital counterparts and OCR analyses are sometimes slightly inaccurate.
High-resolution images of select pages and figures from these publications can be supplied upon request. Original authors and publishers are of course entitled to the full file sets of their publications.
